Holy Cross and St. Nicholas religious education confirmands The following religious education students of Holy Cross and St. Nicholas parishes were confirmed at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at St. Nicholas Church. Heather Anderson, Trevor Dietman, Dianna Donnay, Ryan Frank, Jessica Gully, David Heinen, Douglas Hommerding, Ryan Hansen, Emily Korman, Brandon Krippner, Josh Kuechle, Brian Kunkel, Derek Kunkel, Amanda Reil, Michael Schmitt, Amanda Schneider and Derek Stang. These students were taught by Maureen Hieserich and Louis Kunkel. Doug Ahmann, Daniel Beck, Kirsten Kloskin, Brandon Konz, Ben Konz, Kate Krantz, Adam Kuechle, Emily Linn, Stephanie Loch, Gary Lutgen, Nichole Meier, Michael Schlangen, Christine Schultz, Shane Skaalerud, Jeremy Stommes, Chris Pendergast and Quentin Fossen. They were taught by Mat Walz. Ostmark polka service Ostmark Lutheran Church in rural Watkins will host a polka service Sunday, Oct. 19. The service will feature the band “Stan’s Country Dutchmen,” also of rural Watkins. Stan Welle is adapting Lutheran liturgy to polka-style music for the service. While Stan and fellow band members Jerry Bierschback and Jack Schuh have facilitated Catholic polka masses in the past, this is the first Protestant service they have done. The Music and Worship Committee at Ostmark is looking forward to this first-of-its-kind worship service for their congregation. Committee chairperson Deb Holtz said, “We truly appreciate the extra time Mr. Welle is putting into this service.” The public is invited to participate in this polka service at Ostmark, 32721 680th Ave., at 9 a.m. on Oct. 19. Following the worship service will be coffee and fellowship time sponsored by the Music and Worship Committee.
