Citizens can apply to serve on county committees

There is an opportunity for Stearns County residents to get involved with their local County government. Numerous openings exist for residents wanting to serve on a Stearns County board, committee, or task force.

The boards and committees serve a variety of county departments in a variety of areas. Stearns County is recruiting for appointments to be filled in January 2022. Openings exist on the following committees:

• Board of Adjustment (Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 citizen representatives).

• Community Corrections Advisory Board (District 2 citizen representative; education representative; ethnic minority representative).

• Dairy Advisory Committee (dairy producer representatives; agri-business representatives).

• Delinquent Refuse Account Appeals Panel/Environmental Services Fee Appeals Panel (at-large citizen representative and business representative).

• Extension Committee (Districts 1, 3, 4, and 5 citizen representatives).

• Feedlot Review Committee (ag lender representative).

• Great River Regional Library Board (District 1 citizen representative).

• Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board (District 5 citizen representative).

• Human Services Advisory
Committee (Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, and at-large citizen representatives; service provider representative; schools/education representative).

• Park Commission (Districts 2 and 4 citizen representatives).

• Planning Commission (Districts 1 and 3 and at-large citizen representatives).

• Mental Health Task Force (Adult/Family CSP Representative, Health Services Representative, Judicial System Representative.

• Public Health Task Force (Faith-based Representative, Law enforcement/ EMS Representative).

Per diems and mileage are offered for service on most committees. Interested applicants can see openings, requirements, and apply online for a committee position through the Stearns County website at StearnsCountyMN.gov/914. Online is also a description of each committee, meeting dates and times, and contact information. In addition, citizens can sign up to receive an email to be notified whenever there’s a board or committee vacancy.

The application deadline is Dec. 3, to be considered for an appointment that begins in January 2022.

Serving on one of these committees is a great opportunity for citizens to get involved with their local government and give input on county issues important to them.
