City eyes new development

At this week’s Kimball City Council meeting, March 15, the council: o Heard from a resident that Kimball residential taxes are proportionately much higher than several other small towns in Minnesota. The council agreed that bringing new homes and businesses to Kimball will help to share the tax burden. o Discussed the problems faced by the Davis family in repairing damage to their home caused by sewer backups last summer and fall. o Saw early plans for a new residential development of the open field across Highway 55 from Arnold’s of Kimball. Jerome Kuechle’s plans include 77 residential lots in 39 acres as well as 4 acres for commercial development. o Learned that jetting and vacuuming the Elm Street sewer line cleared it of a great deal of sand, and that all Kimball sewer lines are now under capacity. o Discussed the beginning of road repair season in Kimball. The city is compiling a list of potholes and cracks that need repair this spring. o Entertained questions and concerns from Maine Prairie Township residents, represented by two supervisors. Use of the fire hall, snow plowing, annexation plans and garbage from construction in the Greely Edition were discussed. o Heard of preliminary plans to expand A.M. Maus & Son and a request for tax abatement on the project. o Discussed sale of the old police car (a 1992 Chevy); the city will accept closed bids before April 19. o Voted to disconnect delinquent utilities, renew Aqua Lanes consumption and display permit, approve bingo application for the Legion, and authorized acceptance of a letter of commendation to Todd Rohloff and Jason Okerstrom. o They also discussed possible purchase of St. John’s Lutheran Church for possible city hall and library.
