At the April 19 regular meeting of the Kimball school board, the board agreed to split the $1,800 cost of Active Threat training between the school district, Kimball Police, and Kimball Fire/Emergency Management. Phase I of the training includes walking through the school talking through what would happen if there was an active threat (such as a shooter) in the school buildings. It is a walk-and-talk through, there will be no guns involved. The purpose is for each entity to know its role, and to find and remedy problems before an actual incident occurs. It is an opportunity to test policies that are in place, and to make adjustments if needed, and for all three groups to coordinate and work together in a non-emergency setting in preparation for a possible emergency. About 20 other schools in central Minnesota have already completed this training. There is a classroom portion, and the drill would probably be conducted over two evenings rather than one day.
Eight sixth-grade students who excel at math presented their advanced project to the board.
The last meeting of P.I.E. (Parents In Education) had 10 new members, and it is now believed that the group will continue. (There was a serious threat of its demise as elementary parents have become high school parents.) P.I.E. has raised and donated thousands of dollars to the schools each year in the past.
Chemistry teachere Zach Boser discussed his experience teaching Advanced Placement Chemistry this year.
Superintendent Wagner repor-ted on cost estimates for the new fitness building to be installed on the southwest corner of the high school. A total of $85,000 is needed for HVAC and concrete and electrical work; the building itself, and its installation, would be donated by Legacy Building Solutions. The district cannot pay this $85,000 and so, he says, it will not be built unless funds are raised and donated to do it. He also reported that there will be an indefinite delay on demolition and reconstruction of the concession stand and press box because the two weeks available between track meets is too tight.
The board approved a bid by Taher Inc. to provide the school?Äôs food service. Three vendors had showed interest, but only Taher ?Äì which has provided Kimball?Äôs food service for several years ?Äì submitted a bid.
The next regular meeting of the school board will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, in the board room.
Full minutes can be found on page 15. Also, board meetings are now video-recorded and available online via the school?Äôs website:
