In the Nov. 6 edition of the Tri-County News, the Kimball City Council article stated that the council granted a request by the Kimball Express Baseball Team. The team asked the city for $850 for a flagpole and the city agreed to pay half; $425. This money came out of $1,800 that the Kimball American Legion donated to the city. Mayor Karla Davis was quoted as saying the money for the flagpole would come out of the cultural activities fund. The article also stated that the Legion gave the city money to “grant financial requests in hopes that local groups wouldn’t come to them.” This statement is inaccurate as the Legion works with many area organizations. In the past year, the Kimball Legion has donated a great deal of money to various community organizations, the Kimball Days event, and the school district, to name a few. The $1,800 donation was given to the city following a request for funds. This money was intended to be spent by the city as it wished, as long as the council approved the action at a meeting. “The council has to do what the council wants for the city,” American Legion commander Mike Olk said. “We want to continue to work with the city.” Olk added, “95 percent of what is made at the post goes back into the city through wages, giving to the needy and donations.” The Legion wanted to make sure the community knew that they still wanted people and organizations to come to them seeking donations   “All of our gambling funds are open to the public,” Olk said.
