Clayton Kent of Yucca Valley, Calif., died of heart failure on Sunday, March 9, 2003, in a Palm Springs hospital. He was 89, and he died just six months short of his 70th wedding anniversary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, at the Weiffels and Son Funeral Home in Yucca Valley, Calif. Clayton W. Kent was born in January 1914 to Jackson and Bernice (Stark) Kent of Stanhope, Iowa. He married Claudia Adams in September 1933. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country in the Navy. Clayton served as pastor of the Kimball Church of Christ from 1952-57. Prior to that he served the Goldfield, Iowa, Church of Christ. He was pastor in Haver, Mont., for six years after leaving Kimball and before moving on to Yucca Valley, Calif., where he served as pastor for several years before retiring. In retirement, Clayton enjoyed traveling the country to visit friends. He often spent several weeks in St. Cloud, and visited many friends in the Kimball area during that time. He frequently attended the weekly chicken dinners at Playland with Phyllis Greely Hoeft and helped Phyllis with various newspaper chores like folding the papers during these visits. Clayton Kent was preceded in death by his son Carter. He is survived by his wife Claudia of Yucca Valley, Calif.; daughter Kay Adams of Yucca Valley; son Travis Kent of St. Cloud; and 13 grandchildren.
