Our area law enforcement officers will soon be out on the lookout for those not wearing a seat belt. In May across our state, officers will conduct a “Click It or Ticket” seat belt education and enforcement effort. Why? During 2001-2005, more than 2,400 vehicle occupants were killed on Minnesota roads, and of those, more than half were unbelted. Consider the lives that could have been saved, if they had buckled up. For those not paying the ultimate cost, a seat belt citation is $25, but can cost as much as $115 after court and administrative fees are tacked on. As advocates of safe driving, we ask you to buckle up – everybody, every seat, every time. Seat belts save lives. Wear your’s and stay safe. And remember, “Click It or Ticket.” The Safe Communities Coalition works to make our roads safer. The coalition is organized through Stearns County’s Human Services Department, Public Health Divison.
