The Watkins Clippers hosted the St. Nicholas Nicks for their first game of the season Sunday, May 7. The game started slow enough, with no scoring until the fifth inning. The Clippers’ two runs went unanswered, and they won the day, 2-0.
Both Carter Block and Matt Geislinger hit a double and a -single apiece, leading the Clippers at bat. Nolan Geislinger hit a pair of singles, and Dustin Kramer and Dan Berg a hit single apiece.
Matt Geislinger earned the win for the Clippers. He kept the Nicks to three hits, struck out eight, and walked none. Block threw the final four innings and the last 12 outs for the Clippers.
Derek Kuechle is tagged with the loss for St. Nicholas. In his five innings on the mound, he allowed three hits and one run, and he struck out one. Travis Hansen pitched in relief.
Damian Lincoln led the Nicks at bat, hitting a pair of singles. Jeffrey Lutgen, #11, and Travis Hansen each hit a single on the day.
Next up, the Clippers play at St. Augusta Gussies at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14.
St. Nicholas comes to Kimball Saturday, June 10, to face the Express.
