Clippers take second in non-conference tourney

The Watkins Clippers participated in a non-conference tournament at Sartell and St. Stephen this past weekend. Other teams in the tournament were St. Stephen, Sartell, Mora, Isanti, Bemidji, Luxemburg, and Ortonville.

Clippers lose to Sartell

The Sartell Muskies  took an early lead Sunday afternoon, June 4, and the Clippers just couldn?Äôt catch up. This game was for the tournament championship, and the Clippers had a respectable second-place finish.

T.J. Frericks was tagged with the loss, pitching three innings.

The Express runs were scored by Dan Sargent, Dan Berg, Tyler Hebrink and Lincoln Haugen. Sargent hit a triple, and Berg hit a double. Berg, Haugen, and Brendan Ashton each had a RBI.

Sartell out-hit Watkins 12-to-8, and won the game 10-4.

Clippers win shutout over Mora

Matt Geislinger pitched a shutout game Saturday, June 3, against Mora. The final score was 9-0, and Geislinger allowed only five hits on the game.

Brendan Ashton led the Clippers at bat, with a homerun in the fourth (with two RBI) and another in the sixth. Lincoln Haugen hit a homer in the third, and Geislinger hit one in the fifth.

The Clippers also played with no errors on the game.

Watkins tops St. Stephen

The Watkins Clippers took a late lead and defeated St. Stephen, 5-2,  Friday evening, June 2.

Dan Berg earned the win for the Clippers, throwing seven innings. 

Dan Sargent had two runs on two hits, and two RBI. Kevin Kramer, Travis Linn, and Adam Hiltner also scored.

The Clippers will host the Luxemburg Brewers at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11.
