Wright County Fair attracted a sold-out crowd for its combine derby, and has decided to have the derby again next year. The first combine demolition derby hosted by the Wright County Fair attracted 11 combines with one-of-a-kind paint jobs, including two combines that looked like cows, one bee, one mad goose, and a variety of other handiwork. There were many levels of prize money with the overall first place winner, Jeff Perschau of Glencoe, earning $1,000. Second place went to Brad Perschau of New Auburn, and third went to Nick Decker of Waverly. Decker also won first place for best decorated combine – “Mastitis Massey.” The second best decorated winner was George Karels of Waverly with “Mad Goose,” and the third best decorated went to Matt Lindberg of Kimball. The 11 participants were Todd Asplin of Dassel, George Karels, Jr. of Waverly, Ted Painschab of Howard Lake, Nick Decker of Waverly, Terry Spurzem of Cokato, Brad Perschaue of Glencoe, Jeff Perschau of New Auburn, Neal Roessler of Monticello, Eric Plotz of Lafayette, Wyatt Kuehl of New Auburn, and Matt Lindberg of Kimball. It was said by one of the announcers that most of the combines in the derby were bought for between $70 to $300. The fair board is planning to do the combine demo derby again next year, said fair board member Charlie Nelson.
