Community invited to human trafficking presentation Oct. 29

·

During teacher workshops in August, KAHS staff participated in a presentation by Stearns County Attorney Janelle Kendall. She taught us about the epidemic in Central MN of sex trafficking. Staff were shocked by what was presented and want to do more to prevent our students from getting caught up in sexual exploitation.

From 6-7 p.m. Monday,
Oct. 29 ,in the choir room (during parent/teacher conferences), all parents and community members are invited to a presentation by the Central MN Sexual Assault Center.

This presentation will address the laws and definitions of sexual exploitation and trafficking, how youth are groomed and recruited, red flags to look for, and strategies for parents hel reduce a child’s risk.

In late November, 7-12 students will also participate in a similar presentation during the school day. Information about the student presentation will be sent home with Quarter 1 report cards and parents will be able to opt-out their child from attending. Although this is a heavy topic, we want to help our students understand the signs leading up to sexual exploitation and learn tools for prevention.

Please join us Oct. 29 for the community presentation. Locally made T-shirts promoting anti-trafficking will be for sale.
