Construction update at Kimball schools

The New Year marks an exciting time for the Kimball Area Public School District. With renovations under way on our schools, I thought it would be a good time to provide an update about the construction projects.
In the Early Childhood (EC) wing, significant progress has been made. The asphalt in the former northeast parking lot has been successfully excavated and removed. Footings have been poured, and construction on the walls has begun. Simultaneously, construction on dedicated gathering spaces for visiting officials and sports teams at the high school is well under way, with framing nearing completion and preparations in place to start hanging sheetrock.
Looking ahead, we anticipate all construction will be completed by the fall of 2024. Along the way, the district will continue to work with construction crews, teachers, and staff to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of students. We appreciate the community’s support and understanding during this transformative period for our schools.
Ultimately, renovations to our school facilities will result in significant safety, security, and educational improvements at both the elementary and high schools. Remodeled, controlled entrances at both buildings will require all visitors to enter the main offices prior to gaining access to each school. The elementary school will receive dedicated spaces for EC programs. The new EC addition will provide four new classrooms, accessible restroom facilities, offices, space for motor skills development, space for parent education, and space for Kimball Area Community Education programming.
The elementary will also gain designated areas for a cafeteria and physical education, which will alleviate stress on maintenance staff and open new possibilities for activities. The cafeteria will become the new “home” for Cubs Club, the district’s school-aged childcare program. At the high school, updated science and Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classrooms will improve hands-on learning, increase flexibility, and provide modern equipment for instruction. Further, the dedicated rooms at the high school for visiting sports teams and officials will prevent delays in access to locker rooms and restroom amenities.
Each day as I watch the construction crews at work, I am reminded about our community’s support of the August 2022 referendum that led to these investments – and I am deeply grateful. Thank you for your patience, cooperation, and ongoing support as we work towards providing an improved educational space for our students.
