Cousins move on in competition

·

Ted Zipoy and his cousin Julia Zipoy will be participating in the International Kids Tractor Pull Aug. 12 in Fairfield, Iowa. Ted is the son of Sue and Tim Zipoy. Julia is the daughter of Sarah and Tom Zipoy. Ted placed first at state competition and third at national competiton. Julia placed second at the state competition that was held in Hutchinson. This qualified her to go to national competition in Mitchell, S.D. She won second place and received a large trophy. The interest in pedal pulling began when Ted’s cousin John came home with a trophy from the pull at the Fair Haven Old Settler’s picnic. John had a trophy with a tractor on it and Ted wanted one, too. So, at Kimball Days both boys pulled in the tractor pull. Each boy had placed and qualified for state. Sue and Sarah took their sons to the state competition for a day of fun. Ted placed first in the 5-year-old boys’ section; he became the national champion. Jason Davis from Channel 5 News featured Ted on his “On the Road With Jason Davis Show.” He was also featured on the “Show of Champions,” hosted by Jason Davis. Ted has participated in state, national and international competitions for the past five years, along with numerous community pulls. Ted has pulled more than 400 pounds; he has had many successes and pedal pulling has given the Zipoy family many wonderful memories. Julia was a baby when big brother and cousin Ted went to the state competition that year. She had her first pull in Rice. The Barta pullers let the four and under pull. Julia brought home a first place trophy. After that, she was hooked and she loves it. The most Julia, age 6, has pulled is 85 pounds. Since Ted’s big day at state, all the Zipoy children (Hannah, Ted, Ben, John and Julia) have enjoyed doing pedal pulls. They do their best and encourage each other to have fun. The Zipoy families wish Ted and Julia success at the International Pedal Pull.
