Jehonadab (Joe) Cruz, son of Maria and Benito Cruz of Kimball, was named the champion of the 20th annual Kimball district spelling bee at held Kimball High School Thursday, Feb. 12. Joe is a sixth-grader at Kimball Elementary. He won the contest by correctly spelling the words “pristine” and “topaz.” Joe now moves on to the Regional Spelling Bee at St. John’s University at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24. The winner of the regional contest will go on to the state spelling bee later this winter. Tiffany Mehrhoff, a seventh-grader from Kimball Area High School, was the contest runner-up.
