Cubs baseball opens season 3-3

Dassel-Cokato
Opening its 2025 campaign at home versus the Dassel-Cokato Chargers, the Cubs baseball team fell into an early 4-1 deficit after giving up four runs in the second inning.
The Cubs could never fully recover, allowing the Chargers to post two more crooked innings, in an eventual 13-6 season-opening home loss on April 8.
Trailing 4-1 after two innings, the Cubs gave up four runs in the fourth inning and five more in the sixth inning to trail 13-1. In danger of losing via ten-run rule after six innings, the Cubs prolonged the game with five runs in the bottom of the inning, providing for the final margin.
Offensively, seven different Cubs batters recorded one hit each. Andray Stang finished one for three with two RBI, and Brandon Henkemeyer, Tate Winter, and Noah Merten each went one for three with an RBI to lead the Cubs.
The Cubs defense committed three errors in this game, leading to six unearned Chargers runs.
Ronnie Arnold took the pitching loss for the Cubs, giving up eight runs, three earned, on eight hits and three walks, and striking out one over four innings.
Holdingford
After suffering a seven-run loss in its season opener, the Cubs responded in its first road game of the season – versus the Holdingford Huskers on April 10.
Tate Winter got the Cubs going with a first-inning RBI double to give his team an early 1-0 lead after one inning. The Cubs continued to add on after that en route to the 7-2 road win – the team’s first victory on the young season.
After taking that 1-0 lead, the Cubs tacked on two more runs in the third via a Ronnie Arnold two-run single, taking advantage of a two-out Huskers error in the prior plate appearance.
The Huskers scored a run in the fourth to cut the Cubs’ lead to two, at 3-1, but the Cubs later responded with three runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Bryant Knaus two-run single.
The Huskers scored a sixth-inning run before the Cubs capped the scoring with a run in the seventh on a Noah Merten RBI single.
Offensively, leadoff batter Mason Danelke led the Cubs, going two for three with two runs scored. Bryant Knaus finished one for three with two RBI and Ronnie Arnold one for four with two RBI to also pace the Cubs.
Brandon Henkemeyer recorded the team’s first pitching win of the season after giving up two runs, both earned, on seven hits and two walks over five and two-third innings.
Spectrum
The Cubs gave up a single unearned run in the second inning versus the Spectrum Sting. This run would hold up late into the game, seeing the Cubs trail by that same 1-0 margin heading into the sixth inning.
Then, the Cubs broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning. The team closed out the game for the 6-1 come-from-behind road win on April 11.
In this six-run sixth inning, the Cubs batted around, coming to the plate 12 times. Ronnie Arnold started the Cubs’ sixth-inning rally with an RBI single, tying the game at 1-1 at that point.
The Cubs recorded four hits in this inning, but also took advantage of some Sting defensive miscues. Of the Cubs’ six runs, five of them were unearned. The Sting committed five errors for the game.
Offensively, the Cubs stranded 10 runners on base, but recorded nine hits. Bryant Knaus finished two for four with an RBI and Tate Winter two for four to lead the Cubs.
