The Kimball Cubs won their first sub-section game Thursday night against their conference rival Rockford, 8-5. Aaron Rossman pitched nearly six innings for the win. He gave up eight hits on three walks, four strikeouts and three earned runs. Kyle Winter came in to relieve Rossman in the sixth inning and went on to shut the door giving up only one run. The middle of the Cubs lineup provided some timely hitting as Tom Libbesmeier, Winter and Craig Henneman went nine for 11 with eight RBI’s. Winter led the Cubs with three hits (two doubles) and six runs batted in, including a double (with two out and the bases loaded) in the sixth inning. The Cubs only had one error in the seven-inning contest. Rossman and Winter made Rockford flyout 12 times. The Cubs will play A.C.G.C. in Maple Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27. If they win, they will play in the section final at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 in Maple Lake.
