Cub’s basketball starts season with win

The Kimball Cubs boys’ basketball team earned their first win on Friday, Dec. 5, beating the Dassel-Cokato Chargers, 61-51, in the opening game of the season for both squads. Kimball trailed 17-11 after one quarter, but with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Chargers 15-4, they never looked back. The Cubs were led by senior forward Preston Looman who finished the game with 20 points, including four three-pointers and nine rebounds. Aaron Rossman led a second-quarter surge with a dunk, and finished the game with 12 points. Eric Voigt followed with eight points, and Joe Masberg added seven. Randy Saukkola finished the game with five points, Paul Hughes contributed three, and Matt Landwehr, Derek Kunkel and Josh Orn each rounded out the scoring with two points. The Cubs will next play host to the Paynesville Bulldogs on Dec. 9 at the Leo Wirth Gymnasium in Kimball.
