Cubs beat Johnnies The Kimball Cubs boys’ basketball team traveled to Rat Hall on the St. John’s University Campus to play St. John’s Prep in a non-conference match-up Jan. 13. The Cubs got back on track posting a 57-35 win over the Johnnies. The Cubs had many offensive highlights including 22 points from senior forward Preston Looman and 14 points from co-captain Eric Voigt. Kimball’s rebounding and patient offense took control of the game early in the first quarter. The Cubs led 32-13 at halftime and never looked back. The Cubs also got help from starting forward Aaron Rossman who ended the game with nine points. The Cubs hope to continue this type of play against Holdingford Thursday, Jan. 15. Huskers Clip Cubs, 65-64 The Cubs lost to Holdingford Thursday, Jan. 15, by a score of 65-64 in double-overtime. The Cubs led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter and 34-25 at halftime, but Holdingford came back in the second half to tie the game at the end of regulation. The Cubs had several opportunities to end the game during the first overtime but failed to capitalize. Brandon Stoermann hit a three-pointer with two seconds left in the second overtime to edge the Cubs. The team was led by Eric Voigt who finished the game with 24 points and nine assists. Voigt hit five three-pointers. Preston Looman contributed 22 points, including one from behind the arc. Matt Landwehr and Joe Masberg each chipped in seven points for the Cubs, and Nick Stein hit a big three-pointer at the end of the first half. The Cubs travel to Rockford Tuesday, Jan. 20, to take on the Rockets.
