Cubs boys win three in a row

Swanville game

The Kimball boys’ basketball team had the honor of playing at Target Center in Minneapolis, against Swanville, Saturday,
Feb. 8.

The Cubs began strong, jumping ahead of Swanville 8-2. The teams began to settle, and the ball found the bottom of the net. At the half, the score was 29-25. 

The Cubs turned on the heat in the second half, with Owen Mortensen and Andray Stang each hitting three-pointers. At the end of the game, the Cubs got their victory at First Avenue in Minneapolis, 69-45.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle game

The Cubs boys’ team hosted Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Friday, Feb. 7.

With a few three-pointers to take the lead by half, the score was 20-17, Kimball ahead. 

“LPGE would not go away. They cut the lead to three points late, but we were able to hold on at the end,” said coach Klein. 

Kimball secured the victory, 49-43, at the final buzzer. Bryant Knaus scored 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals; Andray Stang 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists; Owen Mortensen 8 points, 4 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds; Henkemeyer 5 points and 4 steals; and Carl Knaus 4 points. 

Maple Lake game

The Kimball boys’ basketball team traveled to Maple Lake Thursday, Feb. 6. 

The game started with a big lead, 22-2 with Kimball ahead. The boys added some three-point shots to that lead to secure a 30-point margin by halftime. 

Coach Jay Klein describes the second half, “We changed up the defense, and Maple Lake adjusted to go on a 14-5 run to start the half. We settled down and pulled away with an 81-36 win.” Coach Klein added that he “was really happy with the way we passed the ball, we dished out 33 assists.” 

Jed Spaulding had a triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists; Bryant Knaus had 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists; Owen Mortensen had 7 points, 10 assists; Henkemeyer had 5 points, 5 steals, 3 rebounds; Ronnie Arnold 11 points, 10 rebounds; Andray Stang 11 points, 5 rebounds; Carl Knaus 5 points, 3 rebounds; Noah Merten 4 points; and both Max Zoller and Max Jansky had 2 points each.
