On Tuesday, Jan. 22, the boys C squad traveled to St. Johns University to take on St Johns Prep. The boys started out fast, playing good defense, forcing turnovers, and running the floor in transition. The Cubs jumped to a 15 point halftime lead 25-10.

It was much of the same in the second half as the defense tightened even more and only allowed the Johnnies 4 second half points. The final score was 47-14. For the first time all year every Cub players got in the scoring column. The scoring was led by Skylor Gruba with 16 followed by Jake Spaulding 12, Gabe Becker 6, Devin Waldorf 4, Jamison Tubridy 3, Gavin Loch 2, Ty Gustafson 2, and Lucas Jansky 2.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, the Cubs faced a much tougher task when the 15-2 Pierz Pioneers came to town. The boys started out strong building a 13 to 5 first half lead. We forced some turnovers and shot very well from the field. However, the Pioneers used their size inside and battled back to take a 22-19 halftime lead. The first 7 minutes of the second half was back and forth. The Cubs got a steal and layup to cut the lead to 32-30. But, Pierz answered with a 3 and the Cubs were not able to get any closer. The Pioneers made free throws down the stretch and ended the game on a 15-5 run. The final score was the Pioneers 47, Cubs 35. Scoring for the Cubs was Lucas Jansky 19, Skylor Gruba 6, Gabe Becker 5, Ty Gustafson 3, and Jake Spaulding 2.

This week, the Cubs will host BBE Tuesday and travel to EVW Friday, both 5:45 p.m. starts. The Cubs’ record for the year now stands at 8-7.
