Cubs lose to Albany, 45-38 The Kimball Cubs boys’ basketball team lost to the Albany Huskies by a final score of 45-38. The Cubs led after one quarter, 9-5, and trailed at halftime by a score of 21-19. The teams exchanged scores in the third quarter before Albany pulled away in the final quarter. The Cubs used a patient ,offensive game and strong defense during the first three quarters before suffering a few key turnovers in the final quarter to give Albany the lead. The Cubs were led by senior forward Preston Looman who finished the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Rossman added 10 points while Joe Masberg chipped in four points. Eric Voigt rounded out the scoring by hitting one from behind the arc and finishing with three points. The Cubs next played Pierz Pioneers Thursday, Feb. 12. Pierz proves to be a tough conference contender The Pierz Pioneers handed the Kimball Cubs boys’ basketball team their second loss to the Pioneers this season. The Cubs improved their performance from their last meeting, though. The Cubs maintained a handle on the Pioneers in the first half but let Pierz get away in the third quarter. Even though the Cubs have not won a conference game, they remain competitive in a conference full of state contenders. The Cubs were again led by senior forward Preston Looman who ended the game with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Paul Hughes followed with nine points off the bench while Eric Voigt and Aaron Rossman added eight points. Matt Landwehr hit two shots from behind the arc to finish the game with six points. The Cubs hope to get their first conference win against the Holdingford Huskers Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Leo Wirth Gymnasium following the B squad game.
