Cubs eighth-grade baseball routs Falcons in home opener

The Kimball Cubs hosted the ACGC Falcons for their home opener on Thursday. After a short weather delay and the completion of the seventh-grade game, the Cubs were able to take the field. Chase Winter toed the rubber for the Cubs and he sailed through the first two innings. Winter tired a bit in the third, but managed to get out of a bases loaded jam. Meanwhile, the Cubs scored a five-spot in the first and four more in the third to lead 9-2 after three frames. The Cubs held the seven-run margin and walked off with a 9-2 victory.

Winter’s totals for the Cubs were two earned runs allowed on two hits. He struck out four and walked four Falcon batters while picking up the win. Jonah Klein closed the game for Kimball. He pitched the final two innings in picking up the save. Klein allowed one hit while walking four and striking out four.

Kimball had seven hits in the game with five different Cubs collecting them. Teagan VanNurden and Ross Vinar each had two. Four different players scored two runs each, VanNurden, Vinar, Winter and Kolby Foster. Vinar had three RBI, and Nolan Petersen and Chase Winter each had two. The win puts the team at 5-1 on the season.
