Cubs eighth-graders fall to Royals on walk-off

Kimball traveled to Royalton on a stormy Thursday afternoon.  Both teams went down 1-2-3 in the first inning. In the second, the Cubs scratched a run across the plate on three Royals’ miscues to take a 1-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third behind clutch hits from Landon Schneider and Ethan Gourneau. Meanwhile, Kolby Foster was mowing down Royalton hitters. He did not give up a run in his first three innings.  In the last inning, the Royals mounted a comeback. The first hitter drew a walk followed by a hit batter. Foster was relieved by left-hander Kadon Pauls. After two more walks, the number-nine -hitter in the Royalton lineup knocked in the winning runs with a two-run double to walk it off.

Kolby Foster started on the mound for the Cubs. He pitched three innings in which he overpowered Royalton hitters. Foster struck out six, walked four, and gave up two runs. He only allowed a single infield hit. Kadon Pauls finished up for the Cubs. Pauls allowed two walks and one hit in taking the loss 4-3.

In the box, the Cubs collected three runs on four hits. They drew three walks and struck out seven times. Kimball added two steals in the game. This closes the season for the Cubs, as they finished with a 13-4 record.
