Cubs eighth-graders struggle, but get split with Eagles

Kimball hosted Eden Valley-Watkins in a double dip on a summer-like Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of five walks, two hits, and an error. Kimball manufactured a first–inning run on a walk and stolen base by Ross Vinar, followed by a Kolby Foster RBI single. Eden Valley-Watkins added three more in the second frame. The Cubs rallied for four runs in the third inning. They scored the runs with two outs as Foster’s two-run -single was the big blow. This would be the end of the scoring for both teams with the Cubs dropping an 8-5 decision.

Jonah Klein had the call as the starter for Kimball. He pitched two innings and gave up eight runs, four of which were earned. Klein allowed four hits, walked seven, and struck out four in taking the loss. Kolby Foster received the call from the bullpen. Foster pitched two strong innings of relief. He struck out five and walked one batter.

In the box, Kimball tallied four hits with Foster collecting two; he knocked in three for the Cubs. Ross Vinar scored two of the five Cub runs. The Cubs also had three steals in the game.

In the second game, Kimball jumped to a 2-0 lead after an inning of play. They had five walks to score the two runs. EV-W answered with a run in the -second inning. The Cubs opened the game up by plating five in their half of the frame. Three walks and singles by Keagan Inglett and Landon Schneider completed the scoring in the 7-1 victory.

Kadon Pauls started on the hill for Kimball. He gave up one run on one hit. Pauls struck out five and walked two in picking up the victory. The Cubs drew eight walks and had two hits in the game.

The split puts the Cubs record at 13-3 on the season.
