Cubs fall just short of first victory, tie Holdingford

The Kimball eighth-grade baseball team hosted the Holdingford Huskers on Thursday, May 4. Holdingford jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the Cubs. Kimball scored five in the second inning to tie the game at six. The Huskers took a one-run lead in the third only to see the Cubs respond with another five-run inning in the fourth. With the Cubs leading by four heading into the last inning, Holdingford scored four runs to tie the game. The game ended with an 11-11 score.

Matt Loch started on the bump for the Cubs. He pitched one inning giving up five runs, one hit, and four walks. Zack Holtz pitched the last five innings. Holtz gave up six runs on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked four.

At the plate, the Cubs pounded out eight hits, scored 11 runs and had eight runs batted in. Austin Donnay led the hitting attack with three hits. Greg Antigua and Simon Ochs had two hits apiece. Holtz had the other hit. Brandon Guggisberg, Carter Lyrek and Donnay each scored two runs. Holtz, Donnay and Lyrek had two RBI each.
