Cubs fall to Lakers The Kimball boys’ basketball team traveled to Howard Lake Tuesday, Feb. 3, only to come up short against the Lakers, 47-39. The Cubs trailed 7-4 at the end of the first quarter. The score was 15-12 in favor of the Lakers at the half. The Lakers had a big third quarter scoring 17 points, but the Cubs fought back and had the game within reach until the last minute. The Cubs’ defense held an otherwise high-scoring team to just 47 points in the game. Preston Looman finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cubs. Matt Landwehr added seven points, and Aaron Rossman chipped in six. Eric Voigt, Nick Stein and Derek Kunkel each hit three-pointers and finished with three points each. The Cubs next looked to Eden Valley where they would take on the Eagles in the second round of the Central Minnesota Conference schedule beginning Friday, Feb. 6. Eagles beat Cubs, 76-38 The boys’ basketball team fell to the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles Friday, Feb. 6, 76-38. The Cubs used a balance scoring attack, but the Eagles led from the start and never looked back. The Eagles were led by Luke Linz who finished the game with 27 points, all of which came in the paint. The Cubs were led by Aaron Rossman who had nine points. Preston Looman added eight points, including six points from behind the arc. Eric Voigt chipped in seven points, and Joe Masberg contributed six. The Cubs hope to rebound against the Albany Huskies Monday, Feb. 9, at Kimball Area High School, and need to finished strong as they enter into the last month of the regular season.
