Cubs’ fifth-grade hoopsters enjoy season

·

The Kimball Cub’s fifth-grade boys’ basketball team enjoyed a successful season with many memorable games. The team started their season in December with a month of practice time. In Janurary they started an eighteen-game schedule which included four tournaments and participation in the Highway 55 League. The team won a total of eight games and was very competitive in most of their losses. The Cubs’ last five losses of the season were by a total of thirteen points. These games were an important learning lesson as they finished the year taking third place in the Eden Valley-Watkins tournament. They beat Maple Lake by two points in overtime, and then beat Holdingford for the third -lace trophy. The only loss of the tournament was by two points to a tough Litchfield team who had beat them by 15 in the championship game of the Litchfield tournament. Highlights of the season included winning both Saturday games of the Litchfield tournament and playing for the championship before losing to the host team. You could tell the boys were quite nervous when they announced the teams before the game. A great experience, but Kimball had a slow start in the first quarter. Another highlight was getting third place in the Eden Valley tournament, winning two of the three close games they played. The Cubs also won the consolation bracket in the Kimball tournament, and placed fourth in the ACGC tournament. The team made good memories playing in four tournaments and bringing home three trophies.
