The Kimball Cubs’ football team finished the regular season with some strong individual performances from players in different roles. Senior Eric Voigt moved from his spot as a receiver to quarterback and jump-started the Kimball offense. Voigt attempted 38 passes, completing 19 for 230 yards. He connected for two touchdowns with Aaron Rossman, who moved from quarterback to receiver. Rossman finished the night with seven catches for 136 yards. Senior tight-end Jeremy Dahnke added another five catches for 37 yards, and sophomore wide-out Kevin Sommers caught four balls for 33 yards. Senior Gary Salmela, who replaced the injured Erich Deutsch as running back, added three catches for 24 yards and 34 yards rushing. Senior Brandon Hurrle led the defense with five solo tackles and one assist. Junior Joe Asfeld contributed two solo tackles, three assists and had a fumble recovery. Kimball now moves into Section 5AA playoffs at Norwood-Young America Oct. 21. NYA is currently the second-ranked team in class AA.
