Cubs girl wrestlers find success at Parkers Prairie

The Cubs’ girl wrestlers earned a pair of top-two individual finishes at the Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale-Parkers Prairie Invitational in Parkers Prairie on Saturday, Jan. 11. 

Sophomore Veronica Reek led the Cub girls at this event, going 2-0 to earn a first-place finish at her weight class. Sophomore Kylie VanNurden went 2-1 on the day to secure a second-place finish. 

As for other finishers, junior Gabby Davis earned third-place with a 1-2 mark, and junior Abby Fischer rounded out the team’s place winners with fourth-place in what was described as a “tough and competitive” weight class.

Other action

In other Cubs’ girls wrestling action, Reek (100), Davis (118), and VanNurden (121) each earned pins during the Cubs’ dual action versus Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

During the team’s dual action in Royalton on Thursday, Jan. 23, the Cub girls earned wins in two of the three matches. Reek earned a pin at the 3:58 mark over Tayla Enstad, and Davis a pin at the 1:54 mark also over Enstad. -VanNurden fell by a pin at the 3:28 mark to Royalton’s Maya Olson.
