Cubs have good showing at Nicollet Tournament

The Kimball wrestling team traveled down to Nicollet for an individual tournament Saturday. Kimball had three wrestlers in the finals which was pretty good considering that there were15 teams competing. Senior Ronnie Anteil was the lone champion for the Cubs after winning 14-6 in the final round. However, his semi-final match proved to be his best as he held on to win 5-4 over the #1 seed. Ronnie also picked up his first pin on the season with a first period pin in the first round. Ronnie has improved his record to 4-0 this season at 130 pounds. At 103 pounds it was Tyler Kuechle who made it to the finals for the second strait year. Tyler went 3-1 on the day picking up a pin in the first round and beating the #1 seed in the semi-finals. Eighth-grader Travis Schiefelbein, 125 pounds, was also in the finals for the first time in his career. He beat his first opponent by 15 points for the tech. fall and in his semi-final match he picked up a pin. Junior Luke Schiefelbein took home third place honors at 171 pounds going 3-1 on the day. Luke picked up two pins and won 10-7 in the third place round. At 112 pounds, Freshman Tanner Meierhofer picked up a three wins two of which were pins as he took home fourth place. Other wrestlers picking up some wins on the day were Mitch Pramann who also got a pin at 135 pounds, Alex Thurber got two wins with a pin at 145 pounds, Junior Zach Hedlund picked up a win with a pin at 160 pounds, and Senior Anthony Laabs also got two wins missing the placing round by one point at 189 pounds. The Cubs had a lot of good competition from many different schools and they all wrestled really well. Next up for the Cubs is a Triangular at BBE Thursday and a Quad at Eden Prairie Friday.
