The Cubs traveled to Big Lake Tuesday, Dec. 8, expecting to wrestle a quad against Little Falls, Becker and Big Lake. When the Cubs weighed in, they were informed that Little Falls and Becker would not wrestle us because of match-count issues. The wrestlers were very disappointed over this news, but made the most of the night, anyway.
Marcus Hamer (103) started the Cubs out with a fall in 2:58 to remain undefeated on the year. Tanner Mills (112) kept things rolling for the Cubs with a pin in 3:08. Tyler Kuechle (130) made quick work of his opponent with a fall in 4:36 to keep his undefeated streak alive. Quentin Bryce (135) fought a very tough match against #one-rated Matt Nelson, saving the team 2 points by only giving up the major decision. Seventh-grader Jordan Joseph (140) was able to keep his pin and win streak alive by pinning his opponent in 3:36, he is now 5-0 with five pins. Caramon Hansen (145) has only seen the second period once this year and tonight was not the night, as he pinned his opponent in 1:20, to remain undefeated on the year. Travis Schiefelbein (160) also remains undefeated on the year with a fall in 4:35. David Joseph (171) made quick work of his opponent by pinning him in 1:18 to keep the Cubs rolling. Alex Thurber (189) bumped up to 215 to give the Cubs a full line-up and made quick work of his opponent as well, with a pin in 2:44. Alex is also 5-0 with five pins. Cody Mackereth (285) wrestled one of his most physical matches this year, going in to the second period tied at zero, Cody looked at his opponent and man-handled him with a whip-over and the pin in 2:57. Final score on the night was
Kimball 54 Big Lake 25.
After the match, Coach Anderson couldn’t believe how well the kids have been wrestling. He stated “this team is wrestling so well, and they have not even dropped down to their weights yet, once they do that, they are really going to be tough.” This year’s team is very exciting to watch and we have had great support from the fans and school. Next up for the Cubs is a “tri” in Belgrade, where they will face their first Conference and Section opponents in Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and Browerville-Eagle Valley. Wrestling will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday Dec. 17, then the Cubs will face Annandale-Maple Lake and Glencoe-Silver Lake Tuesday, Dec. 22, in Maple Lake.
