Rockford outlasts Kimball, 71-53 The Kimball Cubs boys’ basketball team traveled to Rockford Tuesday, Jan. 20, to take on the Rockets at Rockford High School. Rockford, one of the top teams in the Central Minnesota Conference, beat the Cubs, 71-53. The Cubs had a strong first half led by a patient offense and strong rebounding. The Rockets struggled in the first half while the Cubs got 10 points from senior forward Preston Looman. The Rockets led 30-26 at halftime. The Cubs came out in the second half with a few turnovers which Rockford capitalized to hold Kimball at six third-quarter points. The Cubs finished the game with a 21-point fourth quarter but that was not enough to overcome the deficit. The Cubs, after four straight road games, hosted the BBE Jaguars Friday, Jan. 23, in Kimball. Cubs fall to BBE, 64-50 The Kimball Cubs boys’ basketball team fell to the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguars Friday, Jan. 23, 64-50. The Cubs stayed with the Jaguars despite a rough third quarter in which they scored only nine points and allowed BBE to earn 19 points. Kimball was led by Preston Looman who finished the game with 16 points, followed by Joe Masberg who a strong game inside, scoring 14 points. The Cubs also got five points from Derek Kunkel and Paul Hughes, while Matt Landwehr and Randy Saukkola each added four. The Cubs have yet to put together a solid game in the CMC and look to do that against Maple Lake Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Leo Wirth Gymnasium in Kimball.
