The Cubs made the trip to Litchfield for triangular dual action versus Central Public Schools and the host team Dassel-Cokato-Litchfield on Tuesday, Jan. 14. The team came away from this action with two dual losses.
Against Central, the Cubs jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead after a Lance Schiefelbein forfeit victory and a Teagan VanNurden (114) first-period pin. This lead proved to be short-lived.
The Cubs dropped the next five matches and nine of the final 11 matches to lose the dual 53-24.
Besides the first two dual winners, Mark Schiefelbein (152) and Garret Rosenow (215) also earned victories for the Cubs – both by first-period pin.
Of the nine losses, the Cubs dropped six matches by pin and two by forfeit (189 and 285). In the other loss, Miles Looman (121) dropped a 17-2 technical fall to Central’s Judd Pauly.
The dual versus Dassel-Cokato-Litchfield remained mathematically in the balance late. The Cubs’ Jon Serbus (172) earned an 8-6 win over Calvin Rannow to cut the Cubs’ deficit to four points, at 24-28. This comeback fell short, thanks to the Cubs forfeiting two of the final three weights, and the team dropped the dual by a 40-30 final.
Of the 13 matches, the Cubs won six – three by pin; Teagan VanNurden (114), Miles Looman (121), and Garret Rosenow (215) earned those pins. As for the other Cubs victors, Mark Schiefelbein (152) earned a 17-2 technical fall, Karson Schmidt (127) an 18-5 major decision over Presley Havemeier, and Serbus his 8-6 decision.
Of the seven matches the Cubs lost, three came by pin and two by forfeit (189 and 285). The other two defeats came via technical fall – a 17-1 loss for James Schiefelbein (145) to Gavin Terning and an 18-3 defeat for Frank Schiefelbein (160) to Ty Penk.
