Cubs narrowly suffer first loss of season

Both coming in undefeated, the Spectrum Sting and Cubs softball teams were strong in the circle, but the Sting was just a little bit stronger at the plate, sending the Cubs to a 2-0 home defeat on May 5.
Riley Fischer started the game and took the loss for the Cubs. She struck out 14 batters on the day. The starting pitcher also gave up one hit and two runs, one earned, over six innings while walking one.
The Sting broke the scoreless tie in the fourth on a solo home run to center field, and added on an insurance run in the sixth.
Earning the win, the Sting starting pitcher allowed two hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none.
Fischer and Claire Maus each collected one hit for the Cubs. The Cubs left just three runners on base in its first loss of the season.
