Darrel Duane Anderson was born May 18, 1943, in Cody, Wy., the eldest son of Gilmer and Francis (Skime) Anderson. He grew up in Grygla, Minn., and graduated from Goodridge High School in 1961. After high school, Darrel joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. He served as a SeaBee and was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam War. When he finished his Navy tour, Darrel went home to Minnesota where he married Myrna, his wife of 45 years. They lived in Kimball on the family farm, and Darrel worked as a draftsman and an engineer on turbine electric engines in St. Cloud. He later worked for 21 years as Superintendent of Utilities for the City of Warroad, Minn., before retiring in 2005. Shortly after Darrel’s retirement, he and Myrna moved to Ocala, Fla., where Myrna passed in 2011. In 2014, Darrel met his companion and partner, Suzanne Scott, with whom he lived until the time of his passing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Darrel loved hunting, fishing, and camping, as well as other hobbies of woodworking and painting. He never turned down an opportunity to play a few hands of Texas Hold’em, and he enjoyed spending time with his circle of friends at weekly meals, spending his kids’ inheritance.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrna (Mootz) Anderson, and brothers Jerry Anderson and Richard “Red” Anderson.

Darrel is survived by his four children Darrin (and Deanna), Dana, Danny (and Darlene), and Malina (and Troy); 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and Suzanne and his stepdaughters Krystal (and Mike) and Cindy (and Joe).
