Darrel Clinton Wills was born March 26, 1928, on the family farm in Kingston Township to Glen and Stella (Nordstrom) Wills. Darrel attended country school at District #47 before attending Dassel High School. Darrel served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, Darrel returned to the Kimball area. On Jan. 15, 1955, Darrel was united in marriage to Shirley A. Marquardt at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in South Haven. Darrel worked on the assembly line for Ford Motor Company at the St. Paul Plant for 30+ years, retiring in 1980. Darrel’s faith was of the utmost importance to him. He was a long-time member of the Kimball Christian Church, and he enjoyed visiting other churches when he and Shirley travelled. In addition to seeing the world with Shirley, he also enjoyed creating memories traveling with his grandchildren. With a servant’s heart, Darrel volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and he travelled to areas devastated by natural disasters to put his carpenter skills to use. He liked heading north to Canada to fish. In the unlikely event that Darrel wasn’t traveling, he could be found farming, or in his shop doing some woodworking.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Pamela Wills, great-grandchildren William and Layton, siblings Orlo Wills and Lloyd (and Donna) Wills, and brothers-in-law Russ Sovde and Loren Glessing.
He is survived by his sons Steven (and Cindy) Wills of Fair Haven, Douglas (and Julie) Wills of Fair Haven, and Tim (and Doreen) Wills of Kimball; nine grandchildren: Nicole, Jason, Jesse, Michael, Brian, Chad, Courtney, Dustin, and Megan; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Doris Sovde of Aitkin and Jean Glessing of Howard Lake; and nieces, nephews other family members, and friends.
Darrel’s grandchildren will serve as urn bearers. Arrangements are entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services in Kimball.
