Kimball Area Dollars for Scholars (KADFS) is a non-profit organization with the sole purpose of awarding scholarships to Kimball Area high school seniors in helping them further their education. Seniors receive KADFS scholarships through an application process that is done in March each year. Businesses, memorials, groups and the local Dollars for Scholars Chapter in the Kimball area sponsor or donate money to support these ongoing scholarships. Many colleges have matching grants for Dollars for Scholars scholarships. This is a huge incentive since the award then becomes double if the student attends one of these matching-grant colleges.
In order for us to continue being a viable organization to help students pursue their education, we are calling on the community for help.
We are in need of volunteers with some fresh new ideas to promote our organization. We meet the first Wednesday of each month, September through May. Meetings are at 7 p.m. in the Jr. High Commons area at the high school. Our next meeting is Jan. 6. We do not meet during the summer months.
Other areas where volunteers are needed is the scholarship committee, the finance committee and help at sporting events in promoting our local DFS chapter.
The annual Dollars for Scholars fundraiser will be held May 15, at the high school. This is a catered banquet with entertainment and a silent auction. Help is needed for selling tickets, gathering auction items, setting up and helping with the silent auction and decorating for the banquet. Scholarships will be awarded to the recipients that evening.
At the present time, we are in need of a secretary. Joyce Burgstaler, after 13 years of dedicated service, has resigned. Thank you, Joyce, for all you did in getting the Chapter started and, all the work you’ve done since inception of the organization. It is appreciated.
