Donald “Don” Anderson of Kimball died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. He was 96.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Kimball United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Felska officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Kimball Cemetery.

Donald Melvin Anderson was born June 8, 1919, in Meeker County, Minn., to the late William and Christie (Peterson) Anderson. Don and Luella “Lolly” Lackey were married Sept. 2, 1949, in Webster, S.D. After spending three years with the Merchant Marines during World War II, he worked in the creamery, farmed and raised cattle. As years went by, he worked as a custodian at Kimball Schools, sales at Arnold’s of Kimball, boiler engineer at United Hospital in St. Paul, and a member of the merchandise team at Target in Buffalo. He retired for the last time at the age of 84. Don loved to work. In his younger years, he loved to travel and remodel his homes. As time went on, he loved to read, do the New York Times crossword puzzles and drive. Don was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Kimball.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Lolly Anderson; his parents; two brothers Erve and Paul; and sister Alice.

He is survived by his three children Doug (and Shirley) Anderson of Louisville, Colo., Dori Anderson of Houston, Texas, and Myrna (and Dean) Kaskinen of Kimball; grandchildren Jeremy (and Brandi) Kaskinen, Jamie Markwardt, Sara Hajizadeh, Shawn Hajizadeh, and Jeff Gutierrez; great-grandchildren Ashley Tempero, Katelyn Kaskinen,  Tyler Kaskinen, and Mikayla Markwardt; sisters Eva (and Alden) Edlund, and Alpha (and Ted) Erickson; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Jeremy Kaskinen, Tyler Kaskinen, Jamie Markwardt, and Mikayla Markwardt will serve as urnbearers. Military Honors will be provided by the Minnesota Army National Guard.
