Doris Fae Johnson died Friday, June 27, 2003. She was 94. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson with Pastor Brian Brosz officiating. Doris Oliva was born Feb. 7, 1909, to George and Rose (Miska) Oliva of Hutchinson. She was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and continued her education at Carleton College in Northfield. Doris was united in marriage to Lloyd H. Johnson Aug. 17, 1936. Doris and Lloyd made their home in Kimball, Jordan and Webster before retiring to the Oliva farm in rural Hutchinson in 1967. Doris held employment as an English teacher at Kimball High School following her graduation from Carleton College. When married, Doris spent her time as a news correspondent, taking care of her family and doing community service. Doris and Lloyd were blessed with 50 years of marriage together before Lloyd died in 1986. Doris was a long-time member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson. Her biggest emphasis in life was scouting with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She received the Scout of the Year award in 1955. She was an avid gardener and had served as President of the Hutchinson Garden Club. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lloyd Johnson. She is survived by daughter Jo (and Gary) Quale of Anaheim, Calif., and son Tom (and Barbara); eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
