Drive safely this Halloween

·

Soon drivers will be sharing the road with miniature ghouls and goblins when kids take to the streets to trick-or-treat for Halloween. The combination could be scary, but by exercising a little caution both drivers and kids can have a safe, enjoyable time. The following are tips to keep in mind for safe driving during Halloween. o Drivers need to be particularly careful at dusk and when driving either over a hill or around a curve, where visibility is limited. Use high beams for greater line of sight. o Trick-or-treaters should wear reflective tape on their costumes or add bright colors to increase visibility. Make-up rather than masks should be worn so kids have a clear view of their surroundings. o Kids may be caught up in the excitement of the day, and may not act as careful. They should always cross at corners and look both ways before crossing. o Drivers should keep a careful eye on the road and sidewalk. Costumed ghouls may dart out from between parked cars. o Children should stay on a sidewalk or if none is available walk facing the lane of traffic. They should also carry a flashlight. o For more information, a free brochure, “Halloween safety tips,” is available by calling (800) 2TEACHERS or visiting the Web site www.teachers.com.
