In the midst of a nine-game losing skid, the Eagles boys’ -basketball team hit the road for three straight road games last week – first against the Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints on Monday, Feb. 10.
Trailing 30-25 at halftime, the Eagles couldn’t rally back in an eventual 57-46 section road defeat.
The Eagles out-shot the Saints from three-point range, finishing 25% (7 of 28), compared to 15% (2 of 13) for the Saints.
But the Saints found more success inside that three-point line and, as a result, shot better overall for the game. The Eagles shot 29% (16 of 54) from the floor, compared to 41% (23 of 56) for the Saints.
Offensively, Wyatt Moehrle led the Eagles with 16 points. Riley Geislinger posted 15 points, shooting four of nine (44%) from three-point range, and falling two rebounds shy of a double-double performance.
Blake Glenz posted a team-high in blocks with two, and Brayden Becker grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to also pace the Eagles.
Montevideo
The Eagles ran into a hot–shooting Montevideo Thunder-hawks team, trailing 46-23 at halftime. This deficit proved too much for the Eagles to overcome in an eventual 82-62 section road loss on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
For the game, the Eagles allowed the Thunderhawks to shoot 50%, including 52% in that first half. Meanwhile, the Eagles shot 37% for the game, including 32% in the first half.
The Eagles also dropped the rebounding battle by a 46-31 margin, helping lead to 13 more Thunderhawks’ shot attempts.
Wyatt Moehrle again led the Eagles, finishing with 25 points, along with seven rebounds. Caleb DeRose posted nine points to also pace the Eagles.
ACGC
The Eagles hit the road Feb. 14 looking to end a losing streak and they got that chance against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, a team the Eagles defeated 62-48 exactly a month earlier.
Falling into a 42-29 halftime deficit, the Eagles couldn’t deliver the same result it did a month earlier, and they lost this conference match-up by a 73-57 final.
Offensively, the Eagles shot 42% from the floor, but defensively allowed the Falcons to shoot 51%, including 56% in the first half.
Turnovers plagued the Eagles in this game, committing 18 compared to just eight for the Falcons.
Wyatt Moehrle led the Eagles with 17 points, nearly -recording a double-double performance with eight rebounds. Blake Glenz reached double figures with 15 points, and Riley Geislinger posted eight points and eight rebounds to also pace the Eagles.
Defensively, Moehrle and Glenz also each posted a pair of blocks.
Next action
After hosting Maple Lake to begin a regular season–ending three-game homestand Feb. 18, the Eagles host Kimball on Thursday, Feb. 20, and the following week host Holdingford on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
