Eagle girls fall to both Huskies and Falcons

The Eagles girls’ basketball team fell into a 37-25 halftime deficit on the road versus the Albany Huskies. After a nearly even -second half, this deficit proved to provide much of the difference in an eventual 71-56 loss on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Both teams shot 35% from the floor and grabbed 39 rebounds, but the Eagles turned the ball over 25 times, compared to just 12 for the Huskies. 

For the game, the Huskies also reached the free-throw line more frequently. The Eagles finished five of nine from the charity stripe (55.5%), compared to 16 of 28 (57%) for the Huskies.

Grace Brovold led the Eagles, nearly recording a double–double performance with 14 points and eight rebounds. Ava -Vanderbeek did record a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 14 rebounds, and Addy Stommes chipped in 11 points to also pace the Eagles.

Taking a 25-22 halftime lead in a conference home game versus the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons, the Eagles couldn’t hold on to their edge, scoring just
12 points in the second half, and fell by a 54-37 final on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The Eagles won the turnover battle this time around, committing just 12 turnovers, compared to 20 for the Falcons, but struggled to shoot the ball. 

For the game, the Eagles shot just 21% from the floor. Meanwhile, the Falcons shot 49% from the floor, making 11 more shots than the Eagles. 

Addy Stommes led the Eagles with 13 points, sinking three three-pointers. Ava Vanderbeek chipped in seven points and nine rebounds, and Lily Schultz grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds along with posting six points, to also pace the Eagles.

Next action

After hitting the road to play Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, the Eagle girls host Kimball on Friday, Feb. 7. The following week, the team hits the road to play Litchfield on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
