The Eagles girls’ basketball team took a 20-15 halftime lead on the road over the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons. The team rode out this edge, and extended it in the second half en route to the 51-40 conference victory Monday, Jan. 13.
In this game, both teams turned the ball over 28 times, but the Eagles shot 43% from the floor, compared to 33% for the Falcons.
Grace Brovold and Ava Vanderbeek led the Eagles’ scoring effort with 10 points each. Lily Schultz nearly recorded a double-double performance with nine points, and a team-high nine rebounds to also pace the Eagles.
New London-Spicer
The Eagles welcomed in the unbeaten and third-ranked New London-Spicer Wildcats. Falling into a 39-16 halftime deficit, the Eagles couldn’t overcome this hole and fell by a 69-32 final in a section home game Thursday, Jan. 16.
The two teams shot at similar percentages – 32.5 for the Eagles and 34 for the Wildcats – but the Eagles committed 25 turnovers, compared to just six for the Wildcats, and the Wildcats held a 21-7 edge on the offensive glass. This led to the Wildcats taking 27 more shots, and 16 more free- throw attempts compared to the Eagles.
Ava Vanderbeek led the Eagles with eight points.
Osakis
The Eagles fell by a 57-32 final at home to the Osakis Silverstreaks on Friday, Jan. 17. No stats were available from this game as of press time.
With this loss, the Eagles dropped to 3-14 overall and, as of Jan. 20, hold a 2-5 record in Central Minnesota Conference play.
Next action
After hitting the road to play Royalton on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Eagles close out the week at Paynesville on Friday, Jan. 24. The following week, the team heads to Albany on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
