Osakis
The Eagles baseball team wasted little time jumping on the Osakis Silverstreaks, scoring five runs in both the first and second innings to take a 10-1 lead. The Eagles never looked back in an eventual 15-2 home win via ten-run rule in five innings on April 11.
The Eagles scored five runs in the first and five more in the second inning, but did so in different ways in each inning.
In the first inning, the Eagles took advantage of the Silverstreaks’ pitching wildness, working out seven walks and recording just one hit in the five-run inning, seeing the team record 11 plate appearances.
As for the second inning – another five-run frame – the first six Eagles batters reached via hit, including four via extra bases.
The Eagles added on with four runs in the third, recording three hits and three walks, and seeing nine batters come to the plate. The home team capped its scoring with a single run in the fourth on Bryce Neiman’s RBI single.
The Silverstreaks scored one run in the second inning and another in the fifth inning.
As a team, the Eagles recorded 10 hits, but also took advantage of some Silverstreaks’ pitching wildness, coaxing 12 walks and reaching base once on a hit by pitch. Blake Glenz finished two for three with four RBI, Riley Geislinger two for three with two RBI, Max Geislinger two for three, Lee Dziengel one for one with two RBI – reaching base all three times – and Brayden Becker one for three with two RBI to pace the Eagles offensively.
Coltant Harff earned the pitching win for the Eagles, giving up one run, none earned, on one hit and one walk, and striking out five over three innings.
Holdingford (Game One)
The Eagles and Holdingford Huskers each took their punches in the opening game of a doubleheader. Trailing 7-5 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Eagles rallied back to tie the game at 7-7 on a Huskers error and a Max Geislinger RBI groundout.
After this rally, the game eventually headed to extra innings. In the eighth inning, the Huskers scored two runs on a pair of RBI singles. The Eagles recorded a pair of two-out singles in the bottom of the inning, but left the runners stranded in an eventual 9-7 home loss in game one of the home doubleheader on April 16.
Offensively, Max Geislinger finished two for five with three RBI, Coltant Harff two for four with an RBI, and Eli Hernandez two for four with three runs scored to lead the Eagles. As a team, the Eagles recorded nine hits.
Harff earned the loss in relief for the Eagles, giving up two runs, both earned, on four hits and two walks, and striking out one over five innings.
Holdingford (Game Two)
After playing a back-and-forth extra inning affair in game one of the doubleheader, the Eagles took a 3-1 lead over the Huskers in game two after a two-run third inning. Playing as the road team in this game, the Eagles couldn’t carry this edge into the next inning.
The Eagles gave up four runs in the bottom of the third, and answered with a run in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-4. The team got no closer, giving up seven unanswered runs – four in the fifth and three more in the sixth – to fall by a 12-4 final in game two of the doubleheader.
Offensively, the Eagles recorded just five hits by five different batters, but also did coax seven walks and reached base via one hit batter. The team couldn’t take advantage, stranding nine runners on base. Riley Geislinger led the Eagles, going one for four with two RBI.
Defensive miscues would hurt the Eagles in this game, committing three errors that led to eight unearned Huskers runs.
Riley Geislinger took the pitching loss, giving up nine runs, four earned, on six hits, two walks, and two hit batters, and striking out four over four and one-third innings.
