Eagles earn one individual champion at Highwater Ethanol Invite

The Eagle wrestling team captured one individual championship and four top-six finishes en route to its eighth-place finish at the 16-team Highwater -Ethanol Invite from Red Rock Central School in Lamberton on Friday, Jan. 24. The team earned its placement with 75 points.
Nick Becker (285) became the lone Eagle wrestler to walk out as a champion at this event. Ranked eighth at Class A 285 pounds, and the top seed at this weight class, Becker earned a couple of pins to advance to the semifinals versus Staples-Motley’s Steven Petrich.
Becker pulled out a 7-5 decision in this semifinal match to advance to the finals versus -Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta’s (MAHACA) Preston Hinrichs. In the finals, Becker secured his title via a 4-1 sudden victory overtime win.
Carter Scheeler (160) finished third for the Eagles, going 4-1. Along the way, he captured two pins, a technical fall, and an injury default victory in the third-place match versus -Howard Lake–Waverly-Winsted’s Caleb Michels. His lone defeat came via a 45–second pin to the eventual tournament champion Colbe Tappe, ranked second at Class A 160 pounds, in the semifinals.
Also placing for the Eagles, Brody Sieben (114) and Treyce Ludwig (172) each went 2-3 to finish sixth.
Ricky Vaquera Valencia (133), Brayden Kramer (139), Ryder Schmidt (152), Mitchell Lipinski (215), and, wrestling unattached, Thomas Thompson (160) also competed for the Eagles, but fell short of placing.
MNGWL Region 7 Qualifier
Four Eagle wrestlers competed at the 16-team MNGWL Region 7 Qualifier in Milaca on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Cason Demarais (107) led the Eagles at this event with a -second-place finish. After earning a pair of wins – one by major decision – Demarais advanced to the finals versus Paynesville’s Nolan Roberg. He would fall to Roberg by a 10-3 decision to earn his -runner-up finish.
Eagle wrestlers Jase Rohrbeck (114), Torii Berg (121), and -Zachary Heinen (127) also competed at this regional event, but fell short of placing.
Next action
The Eagles end the week on the road – versus Paynesville on Friday, Jan. 30, and versus Royalton Saturday, Jan. 31.
