Eagles girls fall to Cubs

·

The Eagles kicked off the scoring for the evening, and Kimball’s Mazie Jurek scored the Cubs’ first four field goals. Kimball had an 8-4 lead, and Hope Kuechle followed up with a connection on a three-pointer and a layup to push the lead to 13-6. Sami Winter scored 3 points from the free-throw line to make the score 16-6.

“Lily VonWahlde nailed a three-pointer, Lexi Schindele scored on a nice post move and, after Isabelle Schmitz made 3 three-pointers, the Cubs’ offense sparked a 30-8 lead,” said coach Jeremy Kuechle. “Schmitz would lead all scorers and score a career high 16 points in the contest, while Kuechle facilitated the offense in superb fashion finishing with a game high 11 assists.”

VonWahlde drained another three-pointer before halftime, Kimball led 33-12. Schmitz, Schindele, and Kuechle scored the first three field goals of the second half after Jordyn Theis knocked down a three-pointer. The Cubs led 46-21 with 6:40 remaining. “Brooklyn Molitor scored the final bucket for the Cubs as they -finished off a convincing 55-29 victory,” said coach Kuechle.

“Things were clicking for us tonight offensively. I think we took good quality shots, and did a -better job with our spacing and passing to find the open player. This is never an easy place to play, and we have a lot of respect for our opponent, so I want to tell the girls to enjoy this one before we get ready for the next game.”

Kimball’s record moves to 13-8 and 7-4 in the CMC.
