Eagles jump on Falcons early

Already leading 2-0 after one inning, the Eagles’ baseball team broke the game open in the second inning. In this inning, the Eagles posted five hits, but also took advantage of a couple of Falcon errors, two walks, and a couple of hit batters. Every spot in the line-up but one scored in the inning, and the team had 13 plate appearances. It all resulted in an eight-run inning and a 10-0 lead.

The Falcons answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Eagles continued to add on throughout en route to the 18-1 road win via the 10-run rule in five innings on May 5.

After that eight-run second inning, the Eagles tacked on three runs in the third, four in the fourth, and one more in the fifth.

Offensively, the Eagles posted 15 hits, but also reached base via 10 walks and two hit batters. Lee Dziengel led the way, going four-for-four with a double and two RBI. Blake Glenz finished two-for-four with four RBI, Carter Scheeler two-for-three with three RBI, Eli Hernandez two-for-three with a double and two RBI, and Coltant Harff two-for-three with a triple and an RBI to also pace the Eagles.

Gabe Schmitt earned the win on the mound, giving up one run on four hits, two walks, and one hit batter, and striking out two over three innings.
