Eagles pull away from Irish

The Eagles boys’ basketball team took a 23-18 lead into the halftime locker room on the road versus the Maple Lake Irish. Behind a balanced scoring effort, the Eagles would pull away in the second-half to earn its largest victory of the season – a 66-51 conference victory on Thursday, Jan. 9.

In the win, the Eagles shot 40% from the floor and had five different players hit double figures. Wyatt Moehrle led the Eagles with a near double-double performance of 18 points and nine rebounds. Caleb Derose scored 16 points, shooting four of nine from three-point range. 

Lee Dziengel, Riley Geislinger, and Blake Glenz each chipped in 10 points, and Brayden Becker grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to also pace the Eagles.

Defensively, the Eagles held the Irish to 33% shooting from the floor.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in Central Minnesota Conference play.

Next action

After hosting Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City on Jan. 14, the Eagles remain home to host New London-Spicer on Thursday, Jan. 16, and finish the week on the road versus Kimball on Friday, Jan. 17. The following week, the team hits the road to play Albany on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
