Early Childhood Family Education is busy getting classes, locations and families scheduled for the fall session. We have currently registered 49 babies and children and their parents in the ECFE program. Many of these are “first-timers” in this program so we are excited to get to know new families. Currently, we do have a few openings in this program. We can accomodate a few more families in the following classes: Lunch Bunch in Watkins-Tuesday 11:30-1:15. This class has several 3-4 1/2 year olds, and we will be focussing on skills to get ready for school. 3-5’s on in Kimball, Monday 6:30-8 p.m.; 3-5’s in Eden Valley: Tuesday 6:30-8 p.m. These sections have fewer openings, but I still could use one or two children in each. This is a time to have the children in their own school districts with the families who will be classmates soon. Our evening Baby Steps class has several openings. This is usually a very fast-filling class, so call if you would like a slot this year. Our class has children age 0-3, and is designed for the parent who works during the day. Baby Steps in Watkins, Thursday 6:30-8 p.m. More and more grandparents are caring for their grandchildren. Some have legal custody, some are caring for them during a transition time, and some are supporting a young family so both parents can work outside of the home. No matter why you are caring for your grandkids, ECFE has an opportunity for you. We in ECFE would like to talk to you if you are caring for a grandchild. We are considering opening a class just for you and the child. We would accept any child age 0-5, along with a grandparent. Our class would provide a fun outing and a learning time for you. Children will be active in the playroom with a licensed early education teacher and after some time together, grandparents will have a talk time to discuss topics of importance to this group. Ideas for discussion might be activities for children, maintaining routines at Grandma’s (-pa’s) home, teaching responsibility to young children, getting ready to go to school (What does the “new school” look like?), dealing with behaviors that are challenging. If you are interesed in more information or just to talk about this or any class, please give Maggie a call at 398-5425 ext. 229 or 764-5575 ext. 3114 Children Learn What They Live By Dorothy Law Nolte If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, he learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy. If a child lives with shame, he learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, he learns confidence. If a child lives with praise, he learns to appreciate. If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice. If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, he learns to find love in the world. Have a wonderful fall.
