Ecker chosen as Kimball Girls’ State representative

Alison Ecker of Kimball has been chosen as the Girls’ State representative for the Kimball American Legion Auxiliary. Her parents are Dory and Richard Ecker of Kimball. Jamie Hanson of Watkins has been chosen as the alternate. Her parents are Lina Hanson of St. Cloud, and Greg and Teri Hanson of Watkins. If, for any reason, Alison is unable to attend Girls’ State, Jamie will go in her place. The 58th annual Minnesota Girls’ State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Minnesota, will take place June 13-19, at Bethel College. Girls’ State is a practical application of Americanism and good citizenship. The purpose is to provide citizenship training for girls in their junior year of high school. Participants learn government by living in mythical cities, countries and states. By carrying out these processes of government, they learn the privileges, duties, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship, and are encouraged to become leaders in the future. The program is a non-political, non-sectarian attempt to instill a love of God and country in these potential leaders. We wish all of those attending Minnesota Girls’ State a successful and fun week.
